Cathrine Mary Jamieson , mostly Cathy Jamieson (born November 3, 1956 in Kilmarnock ) is a Scottish politician and member of Labor and the Co-operative Party .

Life

Jamieson attended the James Hamilton Academy in Kilmarnock and then studied at the Glasgow School of Art . Then she moved to the Goldsmiths College of the University of London , to a degree from the social sciences to the following University of Glasgow and a management degree at the Glasgow Caledonian University to acquire. In the following years Jamieson worked as a social worker in the field of child and youth welfare.

Political career

In the first Scottish general election in 1999, Jamieson first ran for national elections. She applied for the direct mandate of the constituency of Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley and was able to prevail with a clear lead over the SNP candidate Adam Ingram . In 2001 she was appointed State Secretary for Education and Young People. After Jamieson defended her mandate for the Scottish Parliament in the 2003 general election , she was appointed Secretary of State for Justice. Despite losing votes, Jamieson again won the direct mandate of her constituency in the 2007 general election . In the Labor Party's shadow cabinet , she was initially designated as Minister of Health and later as Minister of Housing and Recreation.

Jamieson had been Labor Party deputy parliamentary group leader since 2000, but resigned in 2008. In the same year she ran in the elections for party leadership, but lost to Iain Gray . After the Labor MP in the British House of Commons Des Browne announced that he would not run again for the 2010 general election, Jamieson was chosen to succeed him in his constituency of Kilmarnock and Loudoun . In the general election in 2010 she won the direct mandate of the constituency by a clear margin and moved into the British House of Commons for the first time. She did not run for the Scottish parliamentary elections in 2011 and resigned from parliament. In the general election 2015 Jamieson could not prevail against the SNP candidate Alan Brown and she was subsequently eliminated from the British House of Commons.
