Caucaia

Caucaia , officially Município de Caucaia , is a city in northeastern Brazil in the federal state of Ceará with (2007) 316,906 inhabitants on 1227 km² (255.4 inhabitants / km²).

Founded on October 15, 1759 as Vila Nova de Soure , the city received its current name in 1943, is located 16.5 kilometers west-northwest of the capital of the state, Fortaleza , in its metropolitan region and has eight districts: Caucaia, Bom Princípio, Catuana, Guararu, Jurema, Mirambé, Sítios Novos and Tucunduba.

There are several sandy and bathing beaches in the northern parts of the city. The city has a larger botanical garden to the east, towards Rio Ceará ; there is a trading port and a number of standing waters.
