Juazeiro do Norte , officially Município de Juazeiro do Norte , is a Brazilian city in the dry Sertão in the state of Ceará with 246,515 inhabitants (S 2008).
Juazeiro is located 528 km south of Fortaleza , the state capital. The city was originally a part of Crato until the priest Padre Cícero (1844-1934) developed his activities here and ensured independence. Every year in November there is a well-attended pilgrimage in his honor .
The city is now the second largest in the state and lives in particular from strong trade.
