The Cavally (also known as Cavalla , Youbou or Diougou ) is a stream in West Africa . The neighboring republics of Liberia , Ivory Coast and Guinea (only headwaters). The river is not navigable because of numerous rapids and shallows, but has been used by Africans for centuries with boats and dugout canoes.

Its direction of flow changes in the rainforest- covered catchment area in the central reaches to the southeast and in the lower reaches to the south. The mouth of the Cavally is located about 21 kilometers east of the city of Harper on Cape Palmas in Liberia .
The total length of the Cavally is 515 km, the catchment area is given as 30,225 km². According to the Liberian Hydrological Service of the Ministry of Land, Mines and Energy of Liberia, the total length of the Cavally is 861 km and the drainage basin is given as 30,277 km².
The name Cavally , derived from Portuguese , denotes a species of mackerel found near the mouth .

The flow of the river changes constantly with the seasons:
- on the upper reaches, at the Flampleu hydrographic station, Ivory Coast, catchment area 2 470 km², the maximum is reached in September, it is 104 m³ / s, the minimum is registered in March with 4 m³ / s.
- on the middle reaches, at the Tai hydrographic station, Ivory Coast, catchment area 13,750 km², the maximum is reached in September, it is then 386 m³ / s, the minimum is registered in March with 15 m³ / s.
- on the lower reaches, at the hydrographic station Tate, Ivory Coast, catchment area 28,800 km², the maximum is reached in September, it is then 1485 m³ / s, the minimum is registered in February and March with about 150 m³ / s.
