Career

Barnes spent her junior years through the summer of 2017 with the East Coast Wizards in the New England Women's Hockey League , based in Bedford , Massachusetts , and the New Hampton School , her high school . During this time, the defender took part in the U18 World Junior Championships in 2015 , 2016 and 2017 . She finished each time by winning the gold medal, making her the only three-time world champion in this age group. She was also named the tournament's best defender twice and was on the All-Star team once . In 2017, she led the US girls on the ice as team captain. She made her debut in the US women's national team at the age of 17 in December 2016 .

For the 2017/18 school year and after graduating from high school, Barnes moved to Boston College . In addition to her studies, she played there for the university team in Hockey East , a division in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . Due to her obligations with the US national team, with which she initially took part in the 4 Nations Cup , she only played sporadically in league games. In January 2018 she was finally nominated as the youngest team member for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , where she won the gold medal with the Americans.
