Cecilia Emmy Anna Edefalk (born August 28, 1954 in Norrköping ) is a Swedish figurative painter .

life and work

Cecilia Edefalk studied from 1973 to 1977 at Konstfack in Stockholm and from 1981 to 1986 at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. From 1992 to 1995 she taught at the Konstfackskolan.

Edefalk uses photographs as the basis for her oil painting in glaze technique , which is held in grisaille .

“Another movement” is a series of paintings that were shown in 1990 in the Sten Eriksson Gallery in Stockholm. There Edefalk exhibited seven paintings with motifs in little variation and in different formats. The starting point for this was a fashion photograph in which a man rubs sunscreen on a woman's back. Cecilia Edefalk alienated the image by leaving out the sunscreen and thus giving the hand movement a new meaning. With “Another movement” she sparked a discussion about copyright, authenticity and the relationship between original and image in contemporary art.
