Cedar Hill is a city in Dallas County in the US state of Texas in the United States .
geography
The city is located on US Highway 67 and the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway in the southwest of the county, in central northeast Texas, is about 100 km north of Oklahoma and has a total area of 91.3 km², of which 0, 3 km² of water.
history
The city was founded around 1850 and the first post office opened in 1852. In 1856 a tornado destroyed most of the buildings, killing nine people. In 1890 the population had grown to 500 people. In 1897 the city was renamed Cedarhill, but in 1900 the old spelling was resumed.
After the Northwood Institute moved from Michigan to Cedar Hill in 1966 and the Joe Pool Lake drinking water reservoir opened in 1989, the population grew rapidly to 19,988 in 1990 and 32,093 residents and 786 businesses in 2000.

According to the 2000 census, 32,093 people lived here in 10,748 households and 8,738 families. The population density was 352.5 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 56.67% White, 33.61% African American, 0.50% Native American, 1.98% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, and 4.87% other ethnic groups. About 2.32% were of mixed race and 11.91% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 10,748 households, 49.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 63.8% of them were married couples living together. 14.4% were single mothers and 18.7% were non-families. 15.0% of all households were single households.
32.6% of the population were under 18 years old, 7.7% 18 to 24, 35.8% 25 to 44, 19.2% 45 to 64, and 4.6% who were 65 years of age or older . The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females of all age groups, there were 91.2 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 86.8 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 60,136 , and the median income for a family is $ 63,416. Males had a median income of $ 41,360 versus $ 32,207 for females. The per capita income was $ 23,389. 5.5% of the population and 4.2% of families are below the poverty line. 7.7% of these were children and adolescents under 18 years of age and 6.5% were 65 or older.
