Cellarfolks is a German Irish folk - rock group from Munich . The group has existed since 2001 and currently consists of six members.
style
The music of Cellarfolks is composed of old traditional Irish songs that have been modernized and rearranged with rock elements such as drums and electric guitar and combines typical Irish folk rock with influences from the bands Fiddler's Green , Flogging Molly , Dropkick Murphys , Pogues or Levellers , underlaid with their own compositions in Speed Folk Rock style. Like most Irish traditionals, the songs tell of everyday life in Ireland: of freedom, love, home, the green island or longing for the distance.
history
Cellarfolks emerged in 2001 from a shanty choir with bass, guitar and percussion. With the addition of drums , accordion , mandolin and violin , the result was an initially rather folk -oriented music, which over the years developed from folk rock with world music influences and crossover elements to speed folk rock-oriented.
The band was then invited to the Open Air Festival for Irish Folk Rock in Poyenberg and played double concerts with Fiddler's Green and Bodh'aktan on one stage.
In September 2010 Cellarfolks released the first CD Mermaids , in 2015 the CD Hunting Traveling Ghosts was created . While the first CD Mermaids was produced and published in-house, the CD Hunting Traveling Ghosts was produced in collaboration with the independent label and music publisher BSC Music / Rough Trade.
Cellarfolks took on Celtic Rock Radio (www.celtic-Rock.de) Song of the Year in 2015 with the song The Captain's Dead space 2
