Cengiz Atila (born July 27, 1966 in Muğla ) is a former Turkish football player . His name is associated with the traditional Trabzonspor club . In this he was part of the team that played twice in a row for the Turkish championship and was both times Turkish runner-up. With this club he also spent the most successful time of his career and rose to the Turkish national team.

Career

society

Atila started with the club soccer in the youth department of the soccer club Muğlaspor , the club of his hometown Muğla. In the second division Atila began to run up from the 1986/87 season and quickly conquered a regular place. In the second division season 1990/91 he finally made his breakthrough. With 22 league goals he ended this season as the most successful goalscorer of his club and as one of the most successful strikers in the league. This circumstance also ensured that the traditional club Altay Izmir , who played in the same league as Muğlaspor in the 1990/91 season and who rose as champions in the 1st Lig , signed Atila for the new season. In his new club, Atila quickly managed to switch to the higher 1. Lig and gradually became a key player here.

In the summer of 1993 Atila was finally from the first division Trabzonspor . At this club he immediately enjoyed the confidence of the Belgian coach Georges Leekens . After this was replaced after four matchdays by Şenol Güneş , a player legend of the club, Atila kept his regular place under this new player. Güneş used Atila, who had always played in offensive positions, in the defensive midfield and in defense, helping him to get another career boost. With his club he won his first club-level title with the Prime Minister's Cup in the summer of 1994 . In the 1994/95 season Atila increased his performance and rose to the Turkish national team. His club fought head-to-head with Beşiktaş Istanbul for the Turkish championship and was ultimately runner-up behind them. Atila played as a defender throughout this season and, in addition to his defensive work, ensured his team gained points through important goals. Atila's team won the Turkish Cup and the President's Cup this season . In the 1995/96 season Trabzonspor sat at the top of the table and led the table for much of the season. After it appeared that the club would win the Turkish Championship again after twelve years, the team unexpectedly lost points in the last few game days. After the 0-1 home defeat against Vanspor, the closest pursuers Fenerbahçe Istanbul moved closer to Trabzonspor by one point. In the game on Matchday 32, Trabzonspor met Fenerbahçe at home. This game was lost 1: 2 and the lead in the table was given to Fenerbahçe. Although the remaining two games were won highly, the championship was awarded to Fenerbahçe. Atila's team won the Prime Minister's Cup at the end of the season. Atila started the 1996/97 season at Trabzonspor, but was loaned to his previous club Altay Izmir for the second half of the season.

In the summer of 1997 Atila left Trabzonspor and switched to league rivals Vanspor . For this he played for a season and moved to the second division Karşıyaka SK weter. After three seasons for Karşıyaka Atila moved to the amateur league at Yeni Milasspor , a club in his home province of Muğla . For this club he played until 2004 and then ended his career.

National team

Atila, who had not previously played for any youth national team in Turkey, was nominated for the first time for the squad of the Turkish national team in December 1994 by national coach Fatih Terim's qualifying match for the European Championship 1996 against the Swiss national team and made his international debut in this match. In the same month he completed a second international match. He was nominated for the last time in the national team in March 1995, but was not used in this game.
