Centaurea poculatoris is a plant from the genus of knapweed ( Centaurea ) in the family of Compositae (Asteraceae). It is a very rare Lokalendemit Crete.

features

Centaurea poculatoris is a perennial stem hemicryptophyte that reaches a size of 5 to 10 centimeters. The stem is prostrate. The leaves are flaky and tomentose, at least on their underside, but more or less bald over time. The basal leaves, arranged in a rosette, have entire margins or bulging, pinnately lobed to pinnate with egg-shaped to rounded sections. The stem leaves are more or less undivided.

The baskets stand individually at the top of the stems. The cover measures 12 to 16 × 6 to 8 millimeters. The appendages are lashed like a comb and have a terminal upright and thin thorn . The length of this end mandrel varies between (rarely 1.5 to) 2 and 5 millimeters, usually it is longer than the side fringes. The flowers are yellow with a reddish tip. The achenes measure 2.8 to 3 × 1.2 millimeters, their shape is elongated, their hairs short and downy. The pappus is white and consists of uneven, tiny, rough bristles up to 3.5 millimeters long.

The flowering period extends from June to July.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 18.

Occurrence

Centaurea poculatoris is on Crete in the town of Sfakia , located in the former prefecture of Chania, endemic . The species only grows in two neighboring ravines. It inhabits crevices of steep limestone cliffs at altitudes of 50 to 320 meters.

Centaurea poculatoris is on the Red List of Threatened Species of Greece as " Endangered (EN) " because of its great rarity . H. endangered, led.

Systematics

Centaurea poculatoris was collected by Werner Greuter on October 8, 1966 and first described in 1967 . The type epithet honors the Swiss botanist Alfred Becherer (1897–1977) with his Latinized family name. Within the genus Centaurea , this isolated species belongs to the section Acrolophus (Cass.) DC. and reminds most of Centaurea attica Nyman .
