The Central Plaza ( Chinese 中 環 廣場 / 中 环 广场 , Pinyin Zhōnghuán Guǎngchǎng , Jyutping Zung 1 waan 4 Gwong 2 coeng 4 ) on Harbor Road in the Hong Kong district of Wan Chai North is currently the third tallest building in Hong Kong after the International with 374 meters and 78 floors Commerce Center (484 meters) and the Two International Finance Center (412 meters).
description
The skyscraper was built in three phases; floors B3 to 27 were completed in 1991, floors 28-45 followed in the second phase until February 1992 and finally the last 32 floors until August 1992. The property was more expensive than the building itself. It was opened in 1992 the tallest building in Asia, but lost its title again in 1996 when Shun Hing Square was completed.
After the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 , the Skydeck on the 46th floor was closed for security reasons. However, it is now freely accessible again.
On the top floor (75th floor), which protrudes characteristically from the sea of houses with its pyramidal atrium, is the Sky City Church Hong Kong - the highest church in the world in one building. At night, the entire Central Plaza is illuminated with colorful neon lights .
For a while the Central Plaza was the tallest building in the world with a pure reinforced concrete structure . In 1997, however, it was surpassed by the 390-meter-high CITIC Plaza in Guangzhou , which in turn had to give up this rank to the Trump International Hotel & Tower in Chicago (423 meters, opened in 2009).
