Center Pierre-Charbonneau
The Center Pierre-Charbonneau is an event hall in Montreal that is used for sports and cultural events. It is located in the arrondissement Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve on Boulevard Viau and is part of the Olympic Park . The hall has a capacity of 2000 spectators.
The hall was built in 1957 as a community center and was initially called Complexe sportif Maisonneuve. Later it was used as part of a police school for several years. During the 1976 Summer Olympics , the hall served as the venue for wrestling competitions, with the exception of the final round in freestyle wrestling. In March 1976, it was renamed in honor of Pierre Charbonneau, the recently deceased Vice-President of the Organizing Committee of the Summer Games.
Between 2005 and 2009, the Pierre-Charbonneau Center was the home of two basketball teams , the Montreal Matrix in the American Basketball Association and the Montreal Sasquatch in the Premier Basketball League . Today the hall serves as a leisure sports center as well as a trade fair and exhibition hall.
