Systematics

The first description as Cephalotaxus wilsoniana was in 1914 by Hayata Bunzō in Icones plantarum formosanarum nec non et contributiones ad floram formosanam , Volume 4, page 22. The species is considered by some authors as a subspecies or variety of the Japanese head yew ( Cephalotaxus harringtonia ) or the Chinese head yew ( Cephalotaxus sinensis ). Cephalotaxus wilsoniana is placed in a clade by some authors based on a molecular study carried out in 2008 with Cephalotaxus koreana and treated together with this species as a variety or subspecies of Cephalotaxus harringtonia .
