Cercanías Asturias
Cercanías Asturias is the Spanish name for the suburban train network in the northern Spanish region of Asturias . The state railway RENFE and the narrow-gauge railway company FEVE operate a network of eight lines in different gauges. This is a polycentric network in which the cities of Gijón , Oviedo and Avilés are the most important target nodes.
A tunnel is currently under construction in Gijón , after which the two lines operated by the FEVE railway company will be routed to the other end of the city center via four underground stations. A study is currently being carried out on an above-ground extension along the coast to the east. There are currently no further expansion plans. The network has been extensively expanded and modernized in recent years, as a result of which a local transport concept planned for 2010 was largely implemented ahead of time.

Tariff
In Asturias there is a transport association (CTA) that covers the entire province. As is common in some other Spanish transport associations, the association tariff only applies to time and multi-trip tickets. Single tickets are offered by the two railway companies at individual tariffs and do not allow you to change between the RENFE and FEVE lines. All network cards, on the other hand, allow you to switch between all trains and bus routes that are integrated in the network tariff. The province of Asturias is divided into several zones, whereby one zone usually corresponds to an association of municipalities (comarca). For journeys that go beyond seven zones, the fare for seven zones is calculated as the maximum price. The tickets are magnetic cards that are read in each time you start your journey and when you leave a destination, and are validated for the distance traveled.
Metrotren project
To improve local rail transport in the region, measures are being taken to upgrade the S-Bahn to a regional light rail system, so that the trains within the city centers will function as an underground or tram. In the city of Oviedo, several underground stops were built as part of the renovation of the main train station and the tunneling of the tracks. A tunnel is under construction in Gijón to connect the eastern parts of the city beyond the dead end to rail traffic, with the existing lines functioning as an underground train. As further measures, the Asturias airport is to be connected to the rail traffic and the cities of Avilés and Siero receive tram sections in the inner city area.
