Cercanías Zaragoza is a S-Bahn in the Spanish city of Saragossa that started regular operations for Expo 2008 . This is initially a short, single line that leads from the suburb of Utebo via the Expo site to the main train station and from there in a tunnel under the city in a west-east direction, where it comes back into daylight at Miraflores train station and ends on the eastern outskirts. It is the only S-Bahn in Spain that is used exclusively for inner-city traffic and therefore has more of the character of a light rail , in order to offer a replacement for a missing subway for the Expo 2008 at the time .

Preparatory work for an S-Bahn tunnel was already carried out during the construction of the high-speed line from Madrid to Barcelona , which was carried out in a tunnel under the city. During the construction of the railway tunnel, track bodies for a future S-Bahn route were taken into account. For the completion of the high-speed route, however, no broad-gauge tracks for an S-Bahn have been laid, and only shell structures have been built for the stations. The expansion of the S-Bahn line was only started after the opening of the high-speed route.

In a second expansion stage, two lines are to connect the city with the communities in the surrounding area. The tunnel between the Delicias and Miraflores stations serves as the trunk line. The second expansion stage should go into operation in 2015.
