The Cercanías Murcia / Alicante ( Rodalia de Múrcia-Alacant in Catalan ) operated by RENFE connect the cities of Alicante , Elche , Lorca , Murcia and smaller towns in the region. Despite the officially used Cercanías logo, it is not strictly an S-Bahn network. It is not a network at all, but three consecutive, largely single-track lines. Only the short C-3 line from Alicante to San Vicente del Raspeig is electrified .

On weekdays, line C-1 runs every hour on its entire route from Alicante to Murcia and line C-2 from Murcia to Lorca. Line C-3 runs a little less often and without a fixed cycle. Finally, a total of three pairs of trains run on the C-2 section from Lorca to Águilas on weekdays, and six pairs of trains during the holiday season (July 1 to August 31).

After the opening of lines C-1 and C-2 in 1984 on existing railway lines, line C-3 followed in 2007. The network is to be expanded. It is planned to electrify the lines and expand them to two tracks. In addition, line C-3 is to be extended to Villena . In addition, a link with the Alicante light rail at Alicante Central Station and the local tram at Murcia Central Station will be created.
