Cestrum laurifolium (also Lorbeerblättriger Cestrum ) is a plant type from the genus of cestrum ( Cestrum ).

description

Cestrum laurifolium is a hairless shrub with a stature height of 1.5 to 4 m. The branches are gray and striped. The leaves are almost leathery, elliptical, elongated or, conversely, egg-shaped. They become 5 to 17 cm long and 2 to 7 cm wide. To the front, they are blunt to rounded or only rarely pointed to short-pointed. The base is narrowed or blunt. Both sides are hairless and shiny, the veins are just barely pronounced. The leaf stalks are slender and 4 to 15 mm long.

The inflorescences are panicles that consist of three to five flowers and are overall significantly shorter than the leaves. The flower stalks are 2 to 4 mm long and hairy. The calyx is 2.5 to 3.5 mm in length and is narrowly bell-shaped when it blooms, and widens on the fruit. The calyx teeth are very short, triangular and ciliate. The crown is pale yellow or greenish yellow, narrowly funnel-shaped and 10 to 20 mm long. The corolla tube is 10 to 15 mm long. The corolla lobes are elongated, ovate, blunt and covered with downy hair on the edges. The stamens are hairless and have a tooth at the base.

The berry fruits are ovate-spherical to elliptical and 7 to 10 mm long. They are black to purple-black in color and contain three to seven seeds . These are elongated elliptical or rectangular and about 5 mm long.

Occurrence

The species occurs on all West Indies with the exception of Jamaica . It grows there in thickets, forests and on mountain slopes at low to medium altitudes, mostly in wet or damp areas.
