As Cetechowitzer marble (Czech Cetechovický mramor ) a formerly mainly south-east of is Cetechovice in Mars Mountains in Moravia mined limestone called, the emphasis varied in Moravia during the 17th and 18th centuries found application as a colored decorative stone.

geology

Between Zdounky and Střílky preferred Cetechowitzer cliff ( Cetechovické Bradlo ), as a portion of the clip areas Carpathians, provides a geological anomaly in the belonging to Maguraflyschzone Mars mountains. After the flooding of the Czech massif during the triad, which lasted over the Jura to the Lower Cretaceous , limescale deposits from the Jurassic Sea formed here. During later sedimentation processes in the Upper Cretaceous, these were covered with sandstone ( Magura sandstone ). During the subsequent tectonic processes in the Carpathian zone, the Jura limestone cover tore up and in this way formed clods (called cliffs here).

From geo-scientific point of view, this lime deposits the level of the Oxfordian of some importance, since a fossilized fauna is represented that a large diversity of ammonite genera Phylloceras , Lytoceras , Cardioceras and Perisphinctes represents. According to Dimitrij Andrusov, they document the penetration of paleofaunas typical of Central Europe from the Oxfordian period into the Carpathian region. Finds in these limestones provide significant information about the extent of the sea surface at that time and show a great diversity of individuals. Because of their paleontological importance they are already in 1903 by Viktor Uhlig at its plant construction and image of the Carpathians discussed, while drawing on the Neumayrsche Durchspießungstheorie relates but does not consider this to Cetechowitzer limes applicable.

The limestone of Cetechovice has a massive to compact brecciated structure.

history

The mining of Jura limestone near Cetechovice is said to have started in 1650 and again in 1680. This occurrence of colored limestone with red, white, yellow and green-striped tints prompted the owners of the estate to bring stone breakers from Italy who were familiar with working on marble to Moravia. The nickname Taliáni, which is still in use today for the residents of the village, also dates from this time . In addition to the three most important quarries near Cetechovice, three quarries were operated southeast of Roštín near Salárna and further quarries near Prusinovka and north of Zástřizly .
