Chad Hurley (born January 24, 1977 in Birdsboro , Pennsylvania ) is an American entrepreneur . He became known as one of the founders of the video portal YouTube and MixBit , of which he was Chief Executive Officer . He is married to Kathy Clark, daughter of Silicon Valley entrepreneur and Netscape co- founder James Clark .

Hurley studied graphic design at Indiana University and then worked as a graphic designer for PayPal , where he designed the logo, which was used until early 2014, among other things.

In 2005, he founded YouTube with Steve Chen and Jawed Karim and sold it to Google in October 2006 for € 1.31 billion .

In addition to his work on YouTube, Hurley is a speaker (including at the 2007 World Economic Forum ) and supports film productions such as the film Thank You for Smoking .

In 2007, Hurley and Steve Chen of the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences were named People of the Year at the 11th Webby Awards .

In August 2013, Chad Hurley and YouTube co-founder Steve Chen announced that they would start another joint project: the Mixbit video app. According to their own statements, Hurley and Chen want to stir up the mobile market with their Mixbit mobile app and compete with applications such as Vine or Instagram .
