Chalu

The Chinese book Chalu ( Chinese  茶 錄  /  茶 录 , Pinyin Chálù  - "Reports on tea" ") by the calligrapher and learned official Cai Xiang (蔡襄) ( 1012 - 1067 ) is a valuable document of Chinese tea culture . It was in the 12th year ( 1051 the) Huangyou the Emperor Renzong ((皇祐) era 1049 - 1054 ) of the Northern Song Dynasty written and includes two volumes ( bian ).

Another name ( zi ) of the author was Junmo (君 谟 / 君 謨). The author is from Xianyou (仙游) in Fujian Province . He was an official of Jiànzhōu (建州) in Fujian and a government official of Fujian Province. During the Qingli (慶曆) era of Emperor Renzong ( 1041 - 1048 ) he was responsible as a tea Commissioner for tea Tribute and its transport.

He paved the way for the famous large and small "dragon cakes" (daxiao longtuan 大小 龙 团), d. H. the tea tribute to the emperor.

According to his foreword, the Jian'an (建安) tea products are not mentioned in the book Chajing (茶 经) by Lu Yu (陆羽) and in the chatu (茶 图) by Ding Wei (丁 谓) only picking and the Manufacturing discussed. His book was intended as a supplement to the tea monographs that existed in his time. In it he reports on the many products that he got to know on his inspection trips to different places. The first volume talks about tea, the second about tea utensils, tea from Fujian Province is discussed in great detail.

His collected works were later published under the title Cai Zhonghui ji蔡忠惠 集 ( Collected Works of Cai Zhonghui ), Zhonghui 忠 惠 was his posthumous title.

Old prints and modern editions

The Chalu (茶录) is next to the Beichuan Xuehai included (百川学海) in many other ancient book collections, including the Shuofu (说郛) and the Congshu Jicheng chubian (丛书集成初编).
