- December 10th : The Byzantine Emperor Michael IV dies. Zoe von Byzantium helps her adoptive son as Michael V to the imperial throne. Michael's uncle Johannes Orphanotrophos , who initiated the adoption, is sent to a monastery as the first official act of the new emperor.
