Sunder Srivastava is a young university graduate whose vocation is to fulfill his father's lifelong dream and to build a school in his hometown. But he lacks the money for the project. Sunder's childhood friend Prem, an experienced impostor who works in Bombay, persuades the gullible Sunder to borrow money from his land and fly to Dubai. Prem promises Sunder a well-paying job as a teacher in Dubai that will bring Sunder enough money to put his plan into action within two years. Sunder did what he recommended and comes to Bombay to meet Prem. But there is no sign of his friend to be seen. Sunder involuntarily becomes a pickpocket and loses his luggage and money. To make the bad luck perfect, Sunder finds a letter of apology in which Prem tells him that he has used his 10,000 rupees to go to Dubai himself and that he wants to pay it back one day.
Sunder wanders to an old Christian cemetery. Sitting on an old grave, he vented his anger, but immediately apologized to the dead man for his outbreak. This amuses the ghost of Amar Kumar alias Marco, who was murdered and thrown into the grave 20 years ago. Marco explains to a startled Sunder that he was the notorious Don and that his great love Savitri convinced him to give up being a criminal. One day after the wedding, he was murdered by his protégé Kunta.
Marco needs Sunder's help and promises him a job and a place to stay. Marco gets him a job with his father-in-law. Everyone likes the new teacher's activities, including Marco's sister-in-law. The villain Kunta makes an attempt to stop all of this. The college lacks money and a cricket match is being organized to raise money. Sunder and his team are helped by Marco, which gives him a win. When Sunder tries to tell the others that he can see and hear Marco, nobody believes him. In the end, Kunta kidnaps Sunder, his girlfriend and Marco's father-in-law, but Marco, the friendly ghost, saves them. In doing so, he frees himself from the 26 year old curse that condemned him to the ghost until he does a good deed. The mission is accomplished and Marco says goodbye to everyone.
