Charles Cumming

Charles Cumming (born April 5, 1971 in Ayr , Scotland , Great Britain ) is a British writer of espionage novels .

Life

Cumming went from 1979 to 1984 to the boarding school Ludgrove School in Wokingham , Berkshire, England . Later he attended from 1985 to 1989 on the Eton College , to 1990 to 1994 at the University of Edinburgh , the professional English literature study. He graduated in this subject with top grades (1st Class Honors).

In 1995 the British Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) wanted to recruit Cumming. However, he refused. This experience is reflected in his first novel, A Spy By Nature , in which the hero of the novel is commissioned by the British Security Service (MI5), the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to manipulate documents about oil and gas in the Caspian Sea to play. This first novel, published in 2001, was followed by six more by 2014. In 2008 he published an online interactive story called The 21 Steps as part of the We Tell Stories project by Penguin Verlag .

Charles Cumming was associate editor of The Week magazine from 1996 to 2011 . He writes literary reviews for The Spectator and has appeared on various television programs , including Sky News and BBC World . He is on the board of directors of the fund that awards The Pierce Loughran Memorial Scholarship , which financially enables winners to attend the Yeats Summer School in Sligo , Ireland . He is the founder and president of the José Raúl Capablanca Memorial Chess Society .

Cumming lives in London .
