Career

After a law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1840, he began to work in Wilkes-Barre in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party .

In the congressional election of 1862 Denison was elected in the twelfth constituency of Pennsylvania to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Hendrick Bradley Wright on March 4, 1863 . After two re-elections, he could remain in Congress until his death on June 27, 1867 . This time was marked by the events of the civil war and its consequences. Since 1865, the work of Congress had been weighed down by tension between Republicans and President Andrew Johnson , which culminated in a narrowly unsuccessful impeachment trial.
