Charles Forster Willard
Charles Forster Willard (born October 13, 1883 in Melrose , Massachusetts , † January 31, 1977 in Glendale , Los Angeles County , California ) was an American engineer, pilot and racing driver.
Life
Charles Willard attended Harvard University , where he graduated. He began to take part in car races before he was one of the first flight students to learn to fly with Glenn Curtiss . Willard earned his No. 4 pilot's license from the United States and No. 10 from the FAI . He became a member of the Aeronautic Society and also flew the Curtiss Golden Flyer in 1909 .
At the Dominguez International Air Meet , he won the competition for the best landing and received $ 250 in prize money. Participation in this competition made him known overnight.
He then dealt with radio technology and then went to Glenn Martin , where he designed flying boats as chief designer .
