Charles Gibson (special effects artist)

Charles "Charlie" Gibson is an American special effects artist who won an Oscar in 1996 and 2007 for Best Visual Effects .

Life

He was born the son of actor Henry Gibson and screenwriter Lois Gibson . His first job in visual effects was for the television series Knight Rider and Otherworld . In 1987 he co-founded Rhythm and Hues , a company specializing in the production of visual effects , for which he worked as a director on A Pig Called Babe in 1995 . For this he received an Oscar in the category Best Visual Effects in 1996 .

In the following years he worked on films such as The Green Mile , Ring and Pirates of the Caribbean , for which he was nominated for a second Oscar in 2004. For the sequel, Pirates of the Caribbean 2 , he received another Oscar in the same category in 2007 and for the third part of the series he was nominated a fourth time. This was followed by films such as Terminator: The Redemption and Pirates of the Caribbean - On Stranger Tides as Head of Visual Effects .
