Charles-Marie-André Ginisty (born May 8, 1864 in Laroque-Valzergues , † January 7, 1946 in Verdun ) was a French Catholic clergyman and bishop of Verdun .

Life

Charles received the Ginisty on September 21, 1889 ordination and became a priest of the Diocese of Rodez .

Pope Pius X appointed him Bishop of Verdun on March 11, 1914. The episcopal ordination donated him the Bishop of Rodez Charles du Pont de Ligonnès on May 17th of the same year; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Auch Jean-François-Ernest Ricard and the Superior General of the Order of the Society of Missionaries of Africa Titular Bishop Léon-Antoine-Augustin-Siméon Livinhac MAfr. The inauguration took place on June 11, 1914.

Ginisty died while still in office on January 7, 1946.

Douaumont ossuary

The Douaumont ossuary was built on the initiative of Bishop Ginisty . The remains of 130,000 French and German soldiers who died in the Battle of Verdun in World War I are buried here.
