Charles-Édouard Huot (born March 26 or April 6, 1855 in Québec , † January 27 or January 30, 1930 in Sillery ) was a Canadian painter and illustrator.

Live and act

Huot was a son of the businessman Charles Huot and his wife Aurélie Drolet.

He attended the Collège de Sainte-Anne-de-la Pocatière in Laval and received his first artistic lessons there. With the support of his teachers, Huot went to Paris in 1874 and became a student of Alexandre Cabanel at the École des Beaux-Arts (EBA) .

He soon found his own style and as a schoolboy he was able to take part in several important exhibitions. He experienced his economic breakthrough in 1878 when President Patrice de Mac-Mahon had his oil painting Le bon Samaritain bought for the state.

In Belitz , Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , Huot married Wilhelmine Luise Schlaechter (1849–1907) on August 15, 1885 and had their daughter Alice (1887–1966) with her. Soon after the marriage, Huot gave up his apartment and studio and went back to Canada with his wife.

His first major commission there was in 1887 to design the church of St. Saveur de Québec . The order soon followed to create two works for Parliament .

Charles Huot died in his home in Sillery between January 27 and 30, 1930 and was buried in the Saint Michel de Sillery Cemetery .
