Charles Jacques Villeré

Charles Jacques Villeré (born around 1828 in St. Bernard Parish , Louisiana ; † January 7, 1899 in Jefferson Parish , Louisiana) worked as a politician for both the United States and the Confederate States . He also served as an officer in the Confederate Army .

Career

Nothing is known about the youth and private life of Charles Jacques Villeré. In 1852 he took part as a delegate to the Constituent Assembly of Louisiana. In 1854 he sat in the Louisiana House of Representatives . Then he acted as an elector in the 1856 presidential election . In 1860 he ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the US House of Representatives . In November 1861 he was elected to the First Confederate Congress for the first constituency of Louisiana , where he took up his post on February 18, 1862. He ran successfully for the second Confederate Congress and was then active there until 1865. During the civil warhe also served as a Colonel in the Confederate Army. He died in Jefferson Parish in 1899 and his body was then interred in Metairie Cemetery in New Orleans .
