Charles Joseph Auriol (born November 13, 1778 in Geneva , † May 25, 1834 in Choully (municipality of Satigny )) was a Swiss landscape painter .

Charles Joseph Auriol was a son of Pierre-Elisée d'Auriol, colonel in the service of the King of Sardinia , and Anne-Elisabeth nee. Turrettini. He was a student of Pierre-Louis de La Rive (1753-1817) in Bern and of François-André Vincent and Anne Louis Girodet-Trioson in Paris .

After a stay in Rome , he settled in Geneva around 1810. He married Anne-Jeanne Marguerite Dunant in 1811 and was the father of Philippe Élisé Auriol (April 8, 1814–1866) and Louis Philippe Gustave Auriol (August 31, 1816–1882). From 1798 Auriol exhibited regularly in Geneva, 1812 in Paris, and from 1817 to 1830 in Zurich and Bern.

In 1816 he became a member of the art society and board member of the Society of Friends of Art. His works show influences from classicism and romanticism. Clouds of mist often appeared in the background of his landscapes. His friend, the painter Wolfgang-Adam Töpffer , nicknamed him Nebelmaler .
