Jonida Maliqi (born March 26, 1983 in Tirana , Albania ) is an Albanian singer and television presenter .

life and career

Born in the capital Tirana , Maliqi began her musical career at the Festivali i Këngës in 1995. At the age of twelve, she took part in the important music festival together with Aleksandër Rrapi and the song Planeti i fëmijëve . However, the two could not win the festival. In 1997 Maliqi took part in the festival again. This time she sang a song about Mother Teresa with Kastriot Tusha . But even here she couldn't win the festival. In 1999 she started her solo career and took part in the Festivali i Këngës for the third time with the song Do jetoj pa ty , where she then took second place. She also took part as a solo artist in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2007, but could not achieve victory by then. Also at the music festivals Kënga Magjike (1999, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008, 2011, 2013), Nota Fest (2002), PoliFest (2002) Microfoni i Artë (2004) and Top Fest (2006, 2007, 2010) she was a participant. Maliqi won the Kënga Magjike 2008 competition on TV Klan .

It wasn't until the Festivali i Këngës 2018 that she returned as a solo artist to the Festivali i Këngës and was able to win the competition in the tenth attempt. As the winner, she received the right to represent Albania at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv , Israel . Her song Ktheju tokës (German: return to the country ) was written by Eriona Rushiti and was also performed in Albanian at the ESC . She reached the final of the competition, where she finished 17th with 90 points.

In addition to her work as a singer, Maliqi also appears as a moderator. In 2012, for example, she hosted the program Dua vendin tim . In 2014 she hosted the fourth season of the Albanian show Dancing with the Stars . In 2016 she acted as a coach on the program The Voice of Albania .
