Charles McLean Andrews
Charles McLean Andrews (born February 22, 1863 in Wethersfield , Connecticut , † September 9, 1943 in New Haven , Connecticut) was an American historian and university professor .
biography
After attending school, he first studied at Trinity College in Hartford and graduated in 1884 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA). After a subsequent postgraduate study at Johns Hopkins University , which he finished in 1889 with a Philosophiae Doctor (Ph.D.), he accepted a position as professor at Bryn Mawr College, which was founded in 1885 .
After teaching at Bryn Mawr College until 1907, he was professor at Johns Hopkins University between 1907 and 1910. He was then from 1910 until his retirement in 1931 Professor of American History at Yale University .
Andrews, who was a member of Phi Beta Kappa , was also a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters (1937), the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (1918), the Royal Historical Society and the American Philosophical Society . He also served as President of the American Historical Association from 1924 to 1925 .
