Charles R. Eckert
Charles Richard Eckert (born January 20, 1868 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania , † October 26, 1959 in Rochester , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1935 and 1939 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Charles Eckert attended the public schools of his home country, Piersol's Academy in West Bridgewater and Geneva College in Beaver Falls . After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1894, he began to work in this profession in Beaver . He later embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In June 1928 he took part as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Houston , where Al Smith was nominated as a presidential candidate.
In the 1934 congressional elections Eckert was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 26th constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Republican J. Howard Swick on January 3, 1935 . After a re-election, he was able to complete two terms in Congress until January 3, 1939 . During this time, other New Deal laws were passed by the Roosevelt government. In 1935 the provisions of the 20th Amendment to the Constitution were applied for the first time , according to which the legislative period of the Congress ends or begins on January 3rd.
In 1938 Charles Eckert was not re-elected. After his time in the US House of Representatives, he practiced as a lawyer again. He was also a board member of Beaver Trust Co. He died on October 26, 1959 at the age of 91 in a car accident in Rochester and was buried in Beaver.
