Louis E. Graham
Louis Edward Graham (born August 4, 1880 in New Castle , Lawrence County , Pennsylvania , † November 9, 1965 in Rochester , Pennsylvania) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1939 and 1955 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .
Career
In 1893, Louis Graham moved to Beaver , Beaver County with his parents . He attended public schools in his respective homeland including Beaver High School . In 1901 he graduated from Washington & Jefferson College in Washington, Pennsylvania. Between 1903 and 1906 he was an assistant district attorney in Beaver County. After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1906, he began to work in this profession in Beaver. Graham was District Attorney in Beaver County from 1912 to 1924 and Deputy Attorney General of Pennsylvania from 1924 to 1927 . He then acted until 1929 as a legal advisor to the sixth federal district to control the alcohol ban . From 1929 to 1933 he was a federal attorney for western Pennsylvania. He then worked for the Pittsburgh Attorney's Office from 1934 to 1936 , investigating electoral fraud cases. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party .
In the 1938 congressional election , Graham was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 26th constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Democrat Charles R. Eckert on January 3, 1939 . After seven re-elections, he was able to complete eight legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1955 . Since 1945 he represented there as the successor of Grant Furlong the 25th district of his state. From 1953 to 1955 he was chairman of the Joint Committee on Immigration and Nationality Policy . During his tenure in Congress, the Roosevelt government passed the last New Deal laws through 1941 . Since 1941, the work of the Congress was also shaped by the events of World War II . His time in Congress also marked the beginning of the Cold War , the Korean War and, domestically, the prelude to the civil rights movement .
In 1954, Louis Graham was not re-elected. After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, he practiced again as a lawyer in Beaver. He died in a Rochester hospital on November 9, 1965 and was buried in Beaver.
