Charles Walder Grinstead

Charles Walder Grinstead (born December 1, 1860 in East Teignmouth , County Devon , † March 16, 1930 in Nikenbah , Hervey Bay , State of Queensland , Australia ) was an English tennis player.

Life

Grinstead was born in 1860 to Pastor Charles G. Grinstead and his wife Sarah A. Stanley. In 1883 and 1884 he took part in the Wimbledon Championships . In 1884 he reached the All-Comers final, which he lost to Herbert Lawford in four sets.

In the spring of 1885, Grinstead first emigrated to the Canadian province of Ontario . After nine months he went on to the US state of Idaho and worked as a businessman. In September 1892 he married Gertrude Cline. In 1899 he settled as a farmer in County Nez Perce and bought 130 acres of land.

He died in Nikenbah in 1930 and was buried in the Hervey Bay cemetery.
