Charlie Smart (born May 30, 1996 in Perth , Australia ) is an Australian ice hockey goalkeeper who has been under contract with the Newcastle North Stars in the Australian Ice Hockey League since 2017 .

Career

Charlie Smart began his career with Perth Lightning in his hometown, for whom he made his debut at the age of 16 in the WASL, an Australian youth league. Until 2014 he also played for other clubs in this league. In 2013 he was also part of the Perth Thunder squad for a while, but did not appear in the Australian Ice Hockey League . In the 2015 season he made his debut for Adelaide Adrenaline in the AIHL and came to a total of 23 appearances there. Nevertheless, he switched to the Sydney Ice Dogs in 2016 . After just one year, he moved to the Newcastle North Stars , for whom he has played since.

In the southern hemisphere summer, around the turn of the year, he played in North America from 2012. After two years at the Ontario Hockey Academy, he played for various clubs in the third-rate junior league NA3HL from 2014 to 2017.

International

For Australia, Smart was in the junior division at the U18 World Cup in 2013 and the U20 World Cup in 2015 , when he was voted the best goalkeeper of the tournament and the best player on his team after Croatian Vilim Rosandić with the best catch rate and the second best goals against goals Division II in the gate.

In the men's area, he took part with the Australian team for the first time in the World Championship of Division II 2016 and rose with the team from the B to the A group of this division.
