Life

Charlotte Bechstein was the youngest of five children. After an apprenticeship as a steel fitter, she went to the workers and farmers faculty in Jena in 1956 , where she graduated from high school three years later. Then she began studying philosophy at the Friedrich Schiller University . For "political immaturity" it was after three and a quarter years forcedly expelled . In 1964 she gave birth to her first child. After training as a librarian, she worked as the head of the Waltershausen City Library until 1970. In 1971 she had her second child. Her first book was published the following year. She then moved to the Heinrich Heine Library in Gotha , where she worked as a librarian until 1973.

In 1974 she took over the management of the tourist information office in Gotha. Her screenplay “The Librarian” was filmed and first broadcast in 1976. One year later she attended a special course at the Potsdam-Babelsberg University of Film and Television . In 1980 she resigned from the Young Authors 'Working Group at the German Writers' Association . Even so, her professional and personal life was affected by the shadow of the State Security Service . From 1984 to 1986 she worked as the head of the information and documentation department and from 1997/98 as a librarian at the Institute for the Training of Engineering Pedagogues in Gotha. Her professional rehabilitation took place two years later .
