Nabuurs had already established himself as a disc jockey (DJ) and performed at various major events (for example Eurorave and Dance to Eden ). The two decided to work together.

Roelofs and Nabuurs were responsible for the hardcore techno - compilations Thunderdome and went together as Speed City on tour. As Charly Lownoise & Mental Theo, they released several successful records on Roelofs' label. "Live at London" reached high positions in the official charts in the Netherlands . In 1995 the single "Wonderfull Days" appeared on the major label Polygram . With the exception of the rights to vinyl releases, they gave all sales and marketing to Polygram.

In 2001 the duo broke up and both went their separate ways again. On October 22nd, 2004 Charly Lownoise released a mix CD , after which he formed the Starsplash duo with Franky Tunes .

At the end of January 2005 a Charly-Lownoise - & - Mental-Theo - best-of- album with the title Thank you Ravers was released .

On October 2nd, 2007 he performed again for the first time together with Mental Theo in Schwerin . In the same year he published his autobiography "Autobiography van een DJ", which was also published in German in 2009.

At times they both play oldschool raves in the Netherlands or Germany. On August 1, 2009 he played with Mental Theo at Nature One at the Classic Terminal.

On June 12, 2010, the two put together an hour on the main floor of Defqon.1 and on July 24, 2010 again on the truck of the German techno radio station "Sunshine Live" at the Love Parade in Duisburg.
