Chau Tu Giang (born July 2, 1955 in Vietnam ) is a professional American poker player . He is three-time bracelet winner of the World Series of Poker .

Personal

Giang fled Vietnam in a small boat for Florida in the late 1970s . There he worked for the minimum wage. Soon after, he went to Colorado and took a job as a chef, making $ 160 a week. Over time, he learned to play poker, and because of his success, he was able to afford to move to Las Vegas , where he made over $ 100,000 in his first year as a professional poker player.

Poker career

Career

Giang had his first major success at the 1993 World Series of Poker , where he finished second in $ 1,500 Pot Limit Hold'em and lost to John Bonetti . At $ 1,500 Ace to Five Draw in the same year Giang won his first bracelet . When the Main Event of the 1996 World Series of Poker , he finished 13th. He won his second bracelet at the $ 2,000 Omaha Eight or Better in 1998 , and the third followed in the 2004 WSOP $ 2,000 Pot Limit Omaha , beating Robert Williamson III , Dave Colclough and Chris Ferguson .

Giang avoided playing tournaments other than the WSOP for several years, focusing on cash games , where he usually played with a $ 4000/8000 limit. He was also a regular neighbor of Doyle Brunson in the Big Game in Las Vegas . When Giang was asked by his children why he was no longer on TV, he returned to the tournament games. In the first championship of the World Poker Tour (WPT) at the Hotel Bellagio , he finished ninth. His biggest tournament win came in 2005 when he finished second at the WPT's World Poker Open , where he won $ 773,448.

He is married and has three children. Overall, he has more than 3.5 million US dollars earned in live poker tournaments.
