The Chaumont is a long, at its highest point 1180 m above sea level. M. high mountain ridge in the Canton of Neuchatel of Switzerland . It is considered the local mountain of the city of Neuchâtel .

The Chaumont belongs to the Folded Jura and is part of the south-easternmost Jura range , which slopes steeply towards the Swiss plateau. The ridge of the Chaumont extends between Lake Neuchâtel in the south, the Seyon gorge in the west and the Val de Ruz in the north; in the northeast it is connected to the Chasseral . The slopes of the Chaumont are covered with fir, spruce and beech forests, on the ridge you can find pastures but also numerous weekend and holiday homes, often in the chalet style.
Development
The Chaumont is accessible from Neuchâtel by a road and a funicular . The funicular, the valley station of which is on the eastern outskirts of Neuchâtel, overcomes a height difference of around 550 m within two kilometers. The area of the mountain station offers a view of the Jura lakes, and when the weather is clear, the view extends as far as the high Alps. Next to the mountain station is one of the oldest concrete observation towers from 1912.
On the Chaumont there is a measuring station of the National Monitoring Network for Air Pollutants ( NABEL ), which records the air pollution (e.g. nitrogen dioxide, ozone, fine dust) at an elevated, rural location in Switzerland.
