Dieter Eric Chenaux-Repond
Dieter Eric Chenaux-Repond (born July 22, 1934 in Bombay ; † October 18, 2000 in Basel , grave in Berzona ) was a Swiss diplomat .
Life
Dieter Eric Chenaux-Repond was a son of the German falconers and Eric Chenaux-Repond was a Swiss businessman. Major Pierre-Nicolas Chenaux , 1740–1781, (leader of the movement of insurgent peasants against the government of Friborg ) was one of his ancestors. His grandfather Julius Chenaux-Repond was a professor and lecturer in accounting at the Technical University of Stuttgart from 1923 to 1939 . In 1964 he married Agathe Meyer.
He attended high school in Zurich and Basel. In 1958 he completed his studies at the University of Basel and was awarded a doctorate in law with magna cum laude . He studied political science at the Institute for International Studies at the University of Minnesota , where in 1960 he wrote the study The Attitude of Governments Toward a State where an Insurection Arises from the American War of Independence to the Spanish Civil War , which dealt with psychology.
Dieter Chenaux-Repond entered the foreign service in 1961 and was employed as a technical assistant in Berlin, Cologne, Paris, Tokyo, New York and Bonn until 1977. From 1964 to 1965 he headed the service for technical cooperation / information and documentation. In April 1968 he acted as Deuxième Secrétaire in Ankara. In June 1972 he was the embassy secretary in Cologne Bonn. From 1977 he was first-class embassy secretary in Bonn .
From March 22, 1980 to March 23, 1983 he was ambassador to Ankara . From April 1, 1983 to August 31, 1987, he was ambassador to Tokyo . In this function he organized a lecture tour for Golo Mann in March 1986 to Tokyo and Osaka .
From September 1, 1987 to January 18, 1992 he was the permanent representative of the Swiss government at the UN headquarters .
From January 26, 1992 to 1998 he was ambassador in Bonn . He caused the Swiss government to provide 6000 DM for a bronze plaque of the Swiss Consul General Franz-Rudolf von Weiss , who in March 1945 with Richard Schimpf saved Bad Godesberg from destruction through negotiations with the US General Louis Aleck Craig.
After his transfer into the retirement in mid-1999, he wrote columns, among others, for the " Die Weltwoche ".
