Cheslin Kolbe (born October 28, 1993 in Kraaifontein ) is a South African rugby union player who is currently under contract with the French club Stade Toulousain . He usually plays in the goalkeeper's position .

He was part of the South African 7-a-side rugby team that won the bronze medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics and was part of the South African team. In 2019 he won the Rugby Union World Cup 2019 in Japan with the South African national rugby union team , the Springboks . In the final, he scored his team's second attempt .

Career

  • Kolbe represented the Western Province at various youth levels, from the U16 Grant Khomo Week 2009 to the U21 Provincial Championship 2012.
  • He has been on the South African national rugby 7 team since 2012. In 2013 he was part of the team at the 7th Rugby World Cup.
  • In 2013 he was part of the SA U20 training group, which was preparing for the 2013 IRB World Junior Championship on a tour of Argentina, after which he was accepted into the team for the World Junior Championship.

Western Province

He made his provincial debut in the Vodacom Cup game against the Boland Cavaliers and a month later he was a substitute for the Stormers in the Super Rugby game against the Sharks .

He signed a three-year contract with Western Province until 2016.

2016 Summer Olympics

Kolbe was part of the 12-man team at the 2016 Summer Olympics . He was a substitute in the Group B game against Spain, which South Africa won 24-0.

Private life

Kolbe is the cousin of the South African sprinter Wayde van Niekerk , who won the gold medal in the 400-meter run at the 2016 Summer Olympics .
