Chidiebere "Chidi" Chijioke Nwakali (born December 26, 1996 in Owerri ) is a Nigerian football player who is under contract with Manchester City . His brother Kelechi Nwakali is also a professional footballer and plays for Arsenal FC .

Career

Chidiebere Nwakali came to Manchester City through the Shuttle Sports Academy in 2014 after convincing the club's scouts at the U-17 World Cup the year before. In July 2014, Nwakali and Kelechi Iheanacho , who was also signed up from Nigeria, took part in a preseason tour in the USA with the professional Citizens team. In January 2015, Nwakali was loaned to Málaga CF to Spain after remaining without a professional appearance in Manchester. From August 2015 he was then loaned to FC Girona for one season . For the Spanish second division team he remained without a job until March 2016, so the loan was ended prematurely. Nwakali was then awarded to Norway, initially to Start Kristiansand and later to Sogndal Fotball . In January 2018, a loan to Scotland to FC Aberdeen followed .

National team

Nwakali made at least eight appearances for the Nigeria U-17 national team in 2013 . With the team he took part in the African Championship of this age group in 2013 . In the final, the Nigerians lost to Ivory Coast . From October to November he took part with the team in the U-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates . In the final, it was Mexico defeated. Nwakali scored two goals during the tournament. In 2015 he played at least one game in the U-20 against Germany at the World Cup in New Zealand . In November 2017 Nwakali was twice a cadre of senior national team of Nigeria for the international matches against Algeria and Argentina . He was not used by the national coach of the Super Eagles Gernot Rohr .
