Chimonobambusa convoluta is a type of bamboo from the genus Chimonobambusa with 2 to 3 meter high stalks and 16 to 22 cm long blade blades. The range of the species is only in the Guangxi Autonomous Region in China .

description

Chimonobambusa convoluta is persistent and forms leptomorphic rhizomes . The woody stalks grow upright and reach a height of 2 to 3 meters and a diameter of 1 to 2 centimeters. The internodes are 12 to 20 centimeters long, stalk-round or with a slightly square cross-section. They are medium green, initially tightly striped and reddish-yellow with tomentose hair, initially smooth and later wrinkled. The nodes are clearly thickened and hairy. Nodes near the base of the stalk without secondary branches are about flatter and form a ring of five to seven root spines. The vaginal scar shows a reddish yellow felty ring and remains of the vaginal base. For each bud, three horizontal side branches are formed, which are about the same thickness and thinner than the stalk. The straw sheaths are mottled purple-brown and shorter than the internodes. They are paper-like, sparsely haired with brown bristles and more densely hairy at the base. The edges are ciliate, and there are no auricles . At the end of the vagina, bristles (oral setae) may be missing or up to two may be formed. The ligule is about 1 millimeter long, arched and has a finely serrated end. The blade of the blade is linear-lanceolate, 1 to 2 inches long, 0.2 to 0.3 inches wide and hairless. Two to four leaves are formed per branch. The foliage leaf sheaths are densely hairy, brown-tomentose, the outer edge is ciliate. The bristles at the end of the vagina (oral setae) are straight, pale and 8 to 10 millimeters long. The ligule is membranous, about 1 millimeter long and not ciliate. The leaf blade is oblong-lanceolate, 16 to 22 centimeters long and 1 to 1.5 centimeters wide. The leaf base has a short stalk-like connection to the sheath. The upper side of the blade is hairless, the underside densely white and hairy. Four or five pairs of lateral nerves are formed per leaf. Transverse leaf veins are clearly developed.

The inflorescences consist of only a few spikelets at the base of each inflorescence are several hüllspelzenähnliche bracts . The spikelets are sessile, linear, laterally compressed and 20 to 50 millimeters long. They form lateral buds at the base. Five to ten florets are formed per spikelet , the florets at the tip are reduced and sterile. Three to seven permanent, similar glumes are formed per spikelet, which are shorter than the spikelet. The glumes are lanceolate, membranous, keeled and have a pointed end. The lemma of fertile florets is ovate, about 8.5 millimeters long, 6 mm wide, paper-like, downy hairy, uncut, pointed and prickly and five to seven times veined. The palea is downy hairy, slightly longer than the palea, the two keels are ciliate and both sides are hairy. The sterile florets are similar to the fertile ones, but they are not fully developed. Three membranous and ciliate erectile tissue , three stamens and two stigmas are formed per flower . The fruits are caryopses with a fleshy pericarp .

Distribution and ecology

The natural range is in China in the Guangxi Autonomous Region . There the species grows at heights of 800 to 1400 meters.
