Younger chimpanzee

The film deals with Jane Goodall's work and her observations in the Gombe Stream National Park , which is located in western Tanzania on the shores of Lake Tanganyika . Since 1960 she has been observing the way of life and behavior of chimpanzees there and advocating their protection. The animals are introduced within their family units and their emotions are explained, which are not dissimilar to those of humans. Goodall advocates not depriving these highly developed animals of their habitat and freedom, and treating them with human dignity if they live in captivity. Recordings of chimpanzees in laboratories are also displayed and reports are made about experiments that are carried out with them, precisely because they are so similar to humans.

Young chimpanzees are shown playing among themselves, within their families, in their mothers' arms and under the protection of the family clan. It should be noted that their living space is threatened by unscrupulous people for whom only profit counts. Jane Goodall is shown dealing with the animals and it becomes clear how familiar she is with them and how the trust that the animals have built affects one another.

Production and Background

The film recordings were made in New York , Arizona and Tanzania . The film has aired multiple times on HBO .

Jane Goodall (* 1934) is a British behavioral scientist known for her long-term studies on great apes. She has been studying chimpanzees since 1960 and has published extensive literature on them. She vehemently opposes animal experiments and violence against animals, which also means that she calls for certain rights for great apes that are similar to those of human rights. She has been the UN Ambassador for Peace since 2002 . The Nobel Committee was asked by her to create a Nobel Prize for alternative methods to animal testing.
