Chinedu Odozor-Onikeku (born December 24, 1977 as Chinedu Odozor ) is a former Nigerian athlete who specialized in the long jump , but also competed in the sprint .

Athletic career

Chinedu Odozor-Onikeku gained her first international experience in 1995 when she won the gold medal at the Junior African Championships, which was held for the first time, with a width of 5.92 m and reached the final in the 200-meter run , but did not start there. In 1998 she first took part in the African Championships in Dakar , where she won the silver medal behind her compatriot Chioma Ajunwa with 6.45 m . The following year she finished fifth at the African Games in Johannesburg with 6.45 m and in 2002 she was fourth at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester with a jump of 6.39 m. Then she won the silver medal in the 100-meter run behind her compatriot Endurance Ojokolo at the African Championships in Radès in 11.32 seconds, supported by the wind , after the originally runner-up Cameroonian Myriam Léonie Mani was disqualified for a doping violation. In addition, she secured the bronze medal in the long jump with 6.39 m behind the Cameroonian Françoise Mbango Etone and Kéné Ndoye from Senegal.

In 2003 she took part again in the African Games in Abuja , where she won the bronze medal behind her compatriots Esther Aghatise and Grace Umelo with a width of 6.52 m . The following year she reached sixth place at the African Championships in Brazzaville with 5.90 m and in 2006 she was fifth at the African Championships in Bambous with 6.01 m. She then ended her career as a track and field athlete at the age of 29.

In 1998 and 2002, Odozor-Onikeku became the Nigerian champion in the long jump.
