The Chiquita country type (also Chiquita country class ) is a refrigerated ship type built in 1991/92 in six units .
details
The design for the Danish Danyard shipyard in Frederikshavn was created for the Great White Fleet shipping company in Belgium. The ships were built in six units in 1991/92. The keel of the type ship , the Chiquita Deutschland , was stretched on February 10, 1991. After the completion of this ship on September 1st of the same year, the five other sister ships , each named with the prefix “Chiquita” with an appended country term, were delivered within one year.
The six ships have deckhouses arranged aft and four holds with a volume of around 18,130 m 3 , which are divided into 18 refrigerated holds and are optimized for pallet transport. The front luggage compartment 1 has two that lying behind other holds four tween decks . The cooling system is designed for both deep-freeze loads (−29 ° C) and banana loads (+13 ° C). In addition, the cooling system is designed for operation with a controlled atmosphere (CA).
There are additional parking spaces for refrigerated containers and three hydraulic deck cranes on deck. The two front cranes each lift 36.6 tonnes, the front Gemini crane (double crane) can either lift 40.6 tonnes with a boom of 20 tonnes each on hatches 1 and 2 or when coupled. The load-bearing capacity of the units is around 14,000 tons.
It is propelled by a Kawasaki Burmeister & Wain two - stroke diesel engine of the type 8S60MC with 15,000 kW of power , which enables a speed of 22 knots . Four auxiliary diesels (2 × 1600 kW and 2 × 1000 kW) are available for energy supply. The mooring and casting off maneuvers are supported by a bow thruster with 1000 kW power.
During construction, the ships of the Chiquita Land type replaced older ships of the Snow class . In 2005, Great White Fleet sold the ships en bloc and has since chartered them back.
