The Chistochina River is a 77 km long right tributary of the Copper River in southern Alaska (USA).
It is fed by the western glacier tongue of the Chistochina Glacier on the southern flank of the Alaska range . The Chistochina River flows south and flows into the Copper River, which flows into the Gulf of Alaska 72 km northeast of Glennallen at Tok Cut-Off on the border of Wrangell-St.-Elias National Park .
In 1887, Henry Tureman Allen documented "Chitsletchina" and "Chistotchina" as Alaskan names for the river. RH Geoghegan later recorded the name “Che-les'-chi-tna” and gave the translation “Marmot Bach”.
Tributaries
The West Fork Chistochina River flows on the right side into the upper reaches of the Chistochina River. The 9 km long glacial river drains a glacier that runs between Gakona and Chistochina glaciers.
The Middle Fork Chistochina River is fed by the eastern glacier tongue of the Chistochina Glacier. It flows 35 km south and flows into the Chistochina River on the left.
The East Fork Chistochina River forms the drain of the 916 m high Mankomen Lake . It flows 29 km to the south and flows into the lower reaches of the Chistochina River on the left.
