The Chorus sine nomine (lat. = Choir without a name) is a mixed amateur choir from Vienna, which was founded in 1991 by the conductor Johannes Hiemetsberger as a student choir.

The choir's repertoire includes works by Johann Sebastian Bach , Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and Johannes Brahms . In addition to classical composers , the choir is also dedicated to contemporary music . Songs by Steve Reich are also in the choir's fund, and compositions have been commissioned to composers such as Wolfgang Sauseng and Lukas Haselböck . Chorus sine nomine has given concerts with Martin Haselböck , the L'Orfeo Barockorchester and the piano duo Johannes and Eduard Kutrowatz , among others .

In 2017 the choir celebrated its debut in Hamburg's Elbphilharmonie and received an invitation to Singapore . In 2019 the choir will be a guest at the Wiener Konzerthaus .

Reviews

The choir is considered to be one of the leading amateur choirs in Austria . The choir is certified on its publications as having “great ability” and “almost always acts homogeneously”. The composer Balduin Sulzer describes the choir in the Kronen Zeitung as a “miracle ensemble that has achieved a perfection that is difficult to describe in terms of sound culture and dynamic design.” “[…] Sounds like velvet and silk, from bass to alto […]” the vocal performance of the choir is illuminated.
