Johannes Hiemetsberger (* 1971 in Kaltenberg , Upper Austria ) is an Austrian choir director and conductor. He is the founder and artistic director of the Chorus sine nomine .

Life

John Hiemetsberger attended the Music School Linz of the Diocese of Linz . From 1986 to 1990 he studied trumpet at the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz with Josef Eidenberger. In 1991 he founded the Chorus sine nomine . Until 1996 he studied conducting, baroque trumpet and early music at the Vienna Conservatory , music education and choral conducting with Johannes Prinz , Herwig Reiter and Erwin Ortner at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and history at the University of Vienna .

Hiemetsberger directed the Upper Austrian Youth Choir from 2000 to 2005. As artistic director of the Cantata Kaltenberg vocal week , the Company of Music vocal ensemble and the director of the Vienna Academy choir, he is present in many ways in concert life and works as a conductor with ensembles such as the Camerata Salzburg , the Vienna Academy and the Tonus Ensemble .

From 1998 to 2002 he was a teacher for choral conducting at the Conservatory for Church Music of the Archdiocese of Vienna . At the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, he teaches choir and ensemble conducting and directs several ensembles (Webern Chamber Choir 2011–2016, Groove Ensemble 2012–2017, Nrebew Consort since 2016).

Since 2008 he has been the artistic director of the Voices Festival in Freistadt / Upper Austria and internationally as a speaker for workshops and master classes. (Europa Cantat Festivals in France and Spain as well as workshops in the USA, Taiwan, Philippines, Finland, Germany and Italy) Between October 2010 and June 2013 he also directed the youth choir “Neue Wiener Voices” with around 70 singers, which is a project representing Jeunesse Austria .

Johannes Hiemetsberger and his ensembles play a wide-ranging repertoire from contemporary music to the Renaissance and make regular guest appearances at the Wiener Konzerthaus , the Wiener Musikverein , the Musical Youth of Austria (Jeunesse), the Salzburg Whitsun & Baroque Festival, the styriarte, the International Bruckner Festival in Linz as well as the Festival Wien Modern as well as Milano Musica, the Ravenna Festival and others. In 2017 he made his debut at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg and the Esplanade Concert Hall in Singapore.
